Six failure modes we see over and over in bathrooms someone else quoted. Most of them live behind the tile, which is exactly why they get skipped.
Waterproofing is skipped or faked
Water-resistant board behind tile, with no pan membrane, is a leak waiting to happen. We install a real waterproofing system, a sloped pan and a sealed membrane, so water goes to the drain and nowhere else.
The exhaust fan is too small or vents into the attic
An undersized fan, or one ducted into the attic instead of outdoors, leaves moisture behind and grows mold. We size the fan to the room and duct it fully outside, so humidity actually leaves.
The shower floor does not drain
A pan set flat, or sloped the wrong way, pools water and works it into the subfloor. We set proper slope to the drain so the floor sheds water the way it should.
Tile is set on the wrong substrate
Tile over drywall or without proper backer cracks and lets water through the grout lines. We use cement board and the right setting materials so tile and grout hold up.
Plumbing rough-ins are not planned
Valve heights, drain locations, and fixture clearances set on the fly lead to awkward showers and code issues. We plan rough-ins and clearances before the walls close.
Blocking for grab bars is left out
Adding blocking in the walls now costs almost nothing; adding a safe grab bar later without it means opening the wall. We build in blocking so the bathroom can adapt as needs change.

How do you make sure the shower will not leak?
